a den of ubiquity...

Hearing of Anne Galloway's successful defence of her PhD dissertation, and reading the inspirational introduction to the paper made me realise the significance of The Blog... Hiding behind a frantically busy company life I think my hands-on participation on blogs / fora and other new media 'spaces' has been sporadic and possibly quite dismissive- am I still living in 1995 when I started on the Honyaku mailing list in Japan? Has Myspace (and Mixi its Japanese sibling) just passed me by?
When I come home at night and both wife and daughter are occupied 'online', I take a break from the daylong lurk on Microsoft Outlook and the tyranny of the Inbox and telephone.
Now I'm a month away from restarting postgraduate anthropology study and I can see the systems and communities that excited me 4 years ago working all around me- attitudes have changed and social patterns with them.
Time to see what the brave new world has become.....
